...normally, I'd be offended at
Singapore's arrest of a US citizen for such a petty 'crime'.
However, he apparently intentionally put himself in their
jurisdiction and announced it. So, he's trying to make a point?
Point made.
...every time I see the Macy's logo, I
always think "how've they gotten away with using the symbol of communism as their
logo?"
This is how:
The red Macy's star has been around since the 1850's when Rowland
Macy opened his first store in New York. Mr. Macy was a sea captain
who became lost at sea and thought he was lost until a star
appeared in the skies above him. He used that star to steer, and it
guided him back to land. Once there, he had a star tattooed on his
arm to keep that memory alive. He adopted the red star as a symbol
for Macy's and it has been around ever since.
...with the Academy cadets. Give the man a
break, he was just having some fun. I was there; the cadets loved it and
it's the last time he will have presided over a graduating class.
...I think this is too politically
expedient a move for the Senator. If he really believed in the
underlying message of the church, he should've stuck it out and
told John Q. Public to politely shove off. By resigning from it,
he's telling us he's willing to walk away from the organization
because it's become politically inconvenient.
I just caught a sad case on one on those
"life in the ER" type shows...a mother with a 14 month old was
assaulted by her boyfriend. He beat her up and bit part of her ear
off. For three hours, she waited in pain for an escape opening. She
convinced the (ex)boyfriend to order some food for the baby; when
he stepped outside the apartment to do so, she locked the door, put
the baby in his crib and went out the fire escape. Neighbors below
her helped her in and called the police.
When they arrived, the man had gained entry into the apartment and
was held the child hostage. The police got close enough to grab the
baby from him, at which point he jumped out the 5th story
window...and hit the ground below.
The ER doctors were working on him when I tuned in: he's pretty
messed up, but going to make it thanks to their efforts.
Assuming he does not have medical insurance, the single questioned
that echoes through my mind watching this is: what is society's
obligation in funding his medical care? And why should we incur the
cost?
...in quoting the declining reenlistment
numbers, they are ignoring the new recruits that would be brought
in. There's some
merit in that argument, but the argument is more complex - new
recruits are not the same as reenlistees. That said, could the GI
Bill be beefed up? Absolutely. The current maximum benefit is
around $1100 a month, which basically offsets living expenses.
School is still paid for through another job, a student loan, or a
grant.
UPDATE: Just heard a commenter on Anderson Cooper 360 compare the 'pittance' this bill would cost against the massive amount of dollars we've funneled into Iraq. Ouch. Hard to argue against that comparison.
I just don't get it. Maybe you guys can help me understand - really.
Mrs. Clinton is staying in the race why? She is, by almost all accounts; behind in the delegate count and it now seems only a matter of time before the race is beyond mathematical reach. Why not get to the business of helping your party. The general election is getting closer and closer.
I don't get the rules of the game.

...and I just heard him ask David
Archuletta if his dad was pushy on American Idol. What kind of
assinine question is that to ask a 17 year old on international
television, and who most likely has to ride home with his dad?
