...first, I think Obama is right. It's a
shell game by Clinton and McCain. A suspension of the .18 cent
Federal tax, which I support in principle, would in practice save
us the consumer very little money. Simple math bears this out. I
put $67 dollars in gas in my tank yesterday (Nissan Frontier); that
was app. 18 gallons. The suspension of the tax would save me $3.24
twice a month, if gas prices stayed at their current rate (which is
far from certain; the gas companies may, as Obama suggests, simply
raise their prices to take advantage of the increased profit
potential). All things remaining equal, for a four month
suspension, I would save...wait for it...$25.92. I'm not one to
ignore a 'free' $25, but at the same time, this is not the major
issue Clinton and McCain want to make it. Not even close. They're
pandering to the masses, hoping we're too ignorant to do to the
math and realize that if you vote for one of them over this issue,
you'll have sold your vote for $25.92.
And Sen McCain...that is about 1/6th the cost of my last textbook.

Ms. Smith thinks it based on some type of
misogynistic attitude. I disagree; it's about
qualifications, sincerity, and Clinton-fatigue. What would she
think of the liberal attitude towards President Bush, I wonder?
It's at least as vitriolic as some of the comments she
describes.

...sorry for the light blogging this last week. I have about thirty (not kidding) articles open on my trusty MacBook waiting to be read through and commented on, but time's been at a premium these last three days.
More to follow!

...gets some prompt attention from the military. I love how the first commenter rails
against the Bush Administration for the condition of these
barracks. As if. These barracks have been around since the '50s.
Want to know how many Presidents have come and gone since then?
Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan,
Bush I , Clinton, and the current President Bush.
Granted, the President is the CINC but there are so many people
between that office and these barracks that to blame the POTUS is,
well, asinine.

get the maximum punishment possible for their gross inaction;

That's far too light a punishment.

Wouldn't surprise me; we'll never know
the truth of it, though, due to the FEC's reporting rules and
Clinton's oh so strategic timing.

...as I was reading this article, I thought to myself these guys are
politicians. Sure enough, the Mayor's of Stamford, Rochester, and
Cincinatti have banded together to write "Earmarks by Another Name:
Democracy".
They posit (among other things) that: By any reasonable
standard, nearly all congressionally directed grants would be
considered a good use of taxpayer funds.
Um...not. (It's a .pdf)

Robert Spencer has the rundown on the
latest honor killing, this one in Australia. The first commentor
nails it with his first word: Psychopaths. The only possible, justified
response to the action of these honor-less animals is the same
punishment they visited on an innocent woman: death. Don't go
waxing philosophical about the irony of taking the same action they
did. The actions are much, much different.

...I read someone's comment the other day
that it's amazing how quickly the narrative changes (can't
remember where). It is Orwellian; Obama's still rocking the
Democratic vote but certain media types who still fawn over the
Clinton's want the narrative to be "Clinton" so much that one win
and they're back with the "momentum".
