If the UN were worth their salt, they would send in an American led force and depose the current gov't. They'd then distribute the aid.

The Burma Junta : Aleksandr
As I posted before in one of the threads about the monk protests, Burma is off limits to the US and is a buffer zone for India and China. Neither those two states nor the junta want any international presence in the country.

Any aid comes with intelligence agents that build up networks and spread information and disinformation, and all three parties involved are afraid that those networks and intelligence operations will through off the balance that has been worked out there.

don't forget : TRex
That like almost all other natural disasters, this was entirely predictable. And the results were/are entirely predictable too. There will be mass chaos, mass casualties, mass suffering. And then all will be forgotten.

How can Burma be a buffer between India and China? It is under Chinese control. I would think a buffer would have to be neutral. In the end, though, I couldn't care less. Niether China, nor Burma, nor Idia are tolerent of Christians.

Myanmar Shave? Just doesn't have the same sound.

India's mess : Aleksandr
Burma's military came to power on the back of the Indian government. The Indians were afraid that a Stalin type socialist dictatorship was going to come to power like was happening in many of the other countries of South East Asia at that time.

India does not want a country on its border that could possibly harbor and assist their own separatist groups. Last year or two years ago in return for secret weapons shipments the Burma Junta gave free reign to Indian Special forces to take out Indian Maoist training camps on their side.

Now China did win the contract to develop the gas fields, but it looks like new discoveries will go to India.

As for the Burma shave, over my head, and probably well before my time.

twice : TRex
This week I have had two posts go missing after I posted them. Hmmmm. Gonna have to empty out the bit bucket sooner or later.

What I replied to this is that if India is in control of Burma, they may as well have ceded it to the Chinese. The government there looks a lot like the puppet governments China sets up wherever it goes.

Maybe I just don't know enough about second rate totalitarian rejiems(sp?) to tell them apart. They all smell bad to me.
