Is it just me??? PDF Print E-mail

I just don't get it. Maybe you guys can help me understand - really. Mrs. Clinton is staying in the race why? She is, by almost all accounts; behind in the delegate count and it now seems only a matter of time before the race is beyond mathematical reach. Why not get to the business of helping your party. The general election is getting closer and closer. I don't get the rules of the game. -BB-

... : dw : http://I wonder
I wonder if she has gone over the edge now and believes her own rhetoric about winning. I am sure sniper's are limiting her campaign trail. She no doubt has a multi million slush fund and is maybe on the verge of finding a way to funnel it into the campaign and the pockets of low friends in high places. She's a go getter, ya gotta give er that. Too bad she's a socialist and an anti American Patriot.

why not? : combatrob
BB, I do not think it's about the party for her - it's about her and the Presidency. Party is a political expedient to advance their agenda. I think she and Pres. Clinton believe that if they can secure the nomination, the anti-Bush anti-GOP meme is so strong right now that the Democrats will turn out for her. In short, the end justifies the means.

A reasonsable person should be expected... : BissBoss
to be able to see that for what it is. I just can't bring myself to believe that it's as selfish as that... Am I just THAT naive?

As stated in my original post, I just don't get it. Could be the main reason I'm not running myself! smilies/grin.gif

Never give up! Never surrender! : Aleksandr
Ohh boy, I am going to hate myself for this tomorrow and not just for quoting a Tim Allen movie.

I do not see why everyone is so upset at Clinton for staying in the race. By her actions now she has won me over more then McCain (who I loath, maybe irrationally, but none the less) and Obama (who is as fake and as controlled by special interests as everyone makes Clinton out to be). By the primary victories the past two months we can see that she has a lot of support that even despite being told by every media outlet out there (mainstream or not) still believe enough in her and in her policies that they will show up and vote for her.

In the end she is in the race because she keeps winning and keeps getting support from people, ohh... and because the race is not over. She is not stupid she realizes that this is hurting her.

The elections are the only place where I know that people are commended (and chosen for VP's) for quitting. She is showing that she will represent her supporters and the policies she stands for (her policies, right or wrong, are the most thought out and most clear of anyone who was in this race) till the end.

As for selfishness, give me a break, everyone runs because they believe it is about them and the Presidentsy. You know this as well as I do, and if you do not then you are not only naive but you are delusional and ignorant.

Obama has raised more money (more then 80 million, last I read probably more then a 100 now) then previous presidential hopefuls raised during their entire presidential runs. One of the few uncompromising rules in life is that there are no free lunches. He is owned by all those campaign funds, which is his biggest weakness, and in the end means he will never bring change, but will be the first all special interest President in the history of the US.

Of course he will say that he got all those contribution from regular citizens (sarcasm), in which case everything he says about the economy being in the crap shoot is a bunch of bull. Because if so many people have enough dough to give him for his primary campaign, then I can't believe that they have to choose between breakfast and gas money.

Clinton out of the three left is the only one that we actually know where she stands and what she stands for. Plus she is the only one of the three that will not back down and keep fighting for her supporters. As a President that is what I want, not a bunch of wimps that want their competition to quit for the sake of the party. Do we even here what they are saying here, not for the voters but for the party, they are mocking and ridiculing the common John Doh.

Hillary won my vote.

didn't see that coming : combatrob
Well, can honestly say I wouldn't have pegged you for a Hillary supporter, Aleks. But I support your right to that vote!

I wouldn't either! : Aleksandr
If these are the options that we have this year I am voting for Bob Barr, even though he has a history of reversing some of his issues to look more libertarian.

The fact that all three major candidates are so similar on all the domestic issues makes policy irrelevant and comes down to personality and character (and Supreme Court Justices nomination). Out of the big three Clinton is the only one whose agenda we really know. She does not follow the Democratic or Republican party talking points. The one thing that you have to love about the Clintons is that they set the agenda not follow someone else’s.

threw me for a loop : combatrob
I've actually considered Bob Barr. Unfortunately, it will be largely a wasted vote since only the mainstream candidates have a realistic crack at the office.

wasted vote : TRex
Wether it is smart to waste your vote (known also as a protest vote) is dependant on what state you are voting in. Since the Presidential race is done by the electorial system, where the leading candidate gets all of the delegates from that state, living in a state where the outcome is a given provides an oportunity to cast a protest vote without risking a change to the overall election.

For instance, here in Texas, the republicans could run a yellow dog against Obama and the dog would win, so I am free to vote for Bob Barr without risking the loss in the electorial votes. The mirror image of this is true in Illinois, where they could run Karl Marx against McCain and Karl would win. Therefore Magellan is safe in casting a protest vote for whichever third or forth party he feels comfortable with.

Magellan? : Aleksandr
Was that a dig at me. Cause I think Magellan would be insulted.

ummm, no : TRex
Magellan lives in IL, where they will vote for the democrat in the Presidential race this fall. It is not a contested state. I could have used NJ, but I don't know how NJ will turn out this fall. I know how TX and IL will turn out. TX and IL are good places for third parties to experiment with their ideas (but third parties probably won't do it the safe and logical way).

OK : Aleksandr
That cleared it up.

In the end we have to vote for who we believe represents our beliefs the best and not worry whether it is a throw away vote. If we all start doing that there will not be any need for them to be "safe and logical".

Aleksandr

well, you have a point : TRex
But we all have to remember, 86% of the public votes like sheep. Or like it is American Idol, or some other beauty pagent. It is only the remaining 14% of us who actually pay attention to the issues.

TRex
They say 74% of all statistics are made up :-)

Remember : Aleksandr
That sixty percent of the time statistics are right a hundred percent of the time. smilies/smiley.gif

Seriously, the sad part is that people give more thought and debate to American Idle winners then to their elected representative. Even worse is that we still choose the wrong Idle.
