...and do something crazy like become independent of our oil supply. That's not exactly what he said but I'm sure he's thinking it. I've long thought that it's strategically smart to use their oil up before tapping ours...but where is the tipping point? How long do we kowtow to OPEC?

Hmmm. There are lots of other points along the way, but I think the tipping point was last summer. (Caught me a little by surprise, I would have thought we would have a couple more years)

Like I sometimes joke about middle age people and financial planning: you (we) should have started a coupld years ago, to prepare for this.

I don't care one way or another if we drill in that Alaska sancuary, but I think we are messing up big time not drilling everywhere we can in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil in Alaska will be there when we need it, but if we don't act first, others may take the oil in the Gulf before we get around to getting it.

There are many other places we could be exploiting, and we should also be exploiting coal, natural gas, and nuclear power much more than we are. Each of these things, except natgas require 5 years or more to spin up, so we need to get on the stick NOW.

As for what the OPEC chief said, yes there is some "bubble" aspect to this, but not enough. I don't think we will ever see $100 a barrel oil or $3.50 a gallon gas again.
