"The government of the United States is a definite government,

confined to specified objects. It is not like the state

governments, whose powers are more general. Charity is no part

of the legislative duty of the government."

Yea but it's too late now. People's lives literally depend on the entitlements and charity.

I read that we weathered the depression wheras Europe churned out fiat money. How did we weather it. We institutionalized charity even though we got dams and roads we still authorized the Fed to give and to set precedent for socialism becomming palatable. At least for those that recogonize socialism when they see it.

While we normally blame FDR for the welfare state, we didn't have real welfare problems until Prez Johnson's War On Poverty. Both men acted out of the goodness of their heart and the softness of their heads. (unlike today, where polititions only want to buy your vote)

Good link Rex. I heard a news report that Oklahoma is suing the federal Government for voiulation of it's Constitutional authority. I guess Oklahoma can survive without Federal funding. I wonder if they have any clue of the precedent that would be set if a case like that would be won. It would in fact lead to violent uprisings were the loving and appeasing federal tits be cut off.

BTW No way Oklahoma would be allowed to win that case no matter how corrupt men in high places had to be. Even to risk exposure as corrupt.

Good book : Wingo
The American Creation by Joseph Ellis is a great book that gives good insight into the ideals of the framers. Madison, Jefferson, Washington and Adams are all portrayed in very interesting ways. I highly encourage you all to read this book. It makes it very easy to see how far we have moved from the original intent of constitution, not to mention that Ellis is just a fantastic writer.
