America: land of the schizophrenic PDF Print E-mail

What an odd nation we can be. On the one hand, the Supreme Court rules the gov't can reach in and take your land if Wal-Mart can pay more in property taxes (a notion I find ridiculous and antithetical to individual rights). On the other, the same court rules you have a right to own a firearm (presumably to defend that home and/or person and a notion I wholeheartedly support). Anybody see the conflict?

No conflict... : BissBoss
Rob,

I'm no legal scholar, but it seems to me that the Supreme Court has made a connection here...

The tacit implication is that it's okay to shoot at the Walmart guys when they come to take your house!

smilies/grin.gif I think that's why they pulled their convention out of Kansas City. We got mo better gun rights here.

ummm : TRex
who pulled their convention out of Kansas city?
I must have missed some of that zombie state inducing political news.

I think the connection they made, unfortunately, is that you can defend your property for the benifit of Wal-Mart, so it will be worth more to Wal-Mart when they have it taken from you.

inclined to agree with TRex's connection... : combat_rob_on_the_move
I'm inclined, BB, to agree with TRex's interpretation. Could be I'm a bit cynic about it all, though. smilies/cool.gif

Was OT and kiddin. The Mayor here was discussing direction of the city and mentioned the loss of a few hi profile conventions. Walmart was one.

It's a no-brainer unless you think about it.

Maybe we are just witnessing the chaos of progressives trying to do end runs around the Constitution while upholding the Constitution. I dunno.

Rex I had to think bout that sinse yesterday, and read some more before it finally sunk in.

I don't understand how a Supreme Court can get away with ducking an issue we are all screaming about. But
